I'm looking at buying a Kubota Tractor soon. I'm looking at the L3430 and the L3830 with the GST transmission. I will be doing lots of mowing with a Land Pride AT-2572 finish mower and dirt work on the side. My question is: Is the GST transmission a good pick for this type of work, or is the FST transmission the way to go? I did look at the HST transmission but not happy with how much power is takes from the engine and PTO. If you own one of these tractors tell me what you like and don’t like about it. Also I did look at John Deere's 4510 and 4710 tractor now I’m just trying to decide on which tractor to get...HELP...

You are worried about the horsepower being lower on the hydro drive tractors but if I could mow your lawn and move your fill faster with a hydro then tell me, Why do we need that extra horsepower? Or is that extra horsepower just a waste? Well it isn't, but then not everyone buys a car or pick-up with a stick and they don't seem to complain of a power loss. You should go back on some of the posts as for everything you said you wish to do,would be quicker with a hydro! ....

Get the hydro. It will cover the widest range of applications and like Art mentioned, get things done much faster. If you haven't tried the John Deere ehydro, try it and I think you will like the difference and smoothness of the ehydro. It is much less jerky than the coventiental hyrdrostatic drive. You can also select 2 different engagement/decelleration rated with the motion match feature. The load match feature will also prevent you from stalling the engine during FEL work unlike conventional hydro drive. The cruise control believe it or not is a very nice feature which comes in VERY handy for applications like rotor tilling which requires an even snails pace at times. The 4610 is the best bang for the buck unless you want the full 48 hp but you will pay an extra $1500 for a few more hp. ....

I was like you and didn't like the power loss on paper with HST, but after I drove one, I bought the HST. I have a DT tractor before my HST and when I was mowing, I could go faster than 5th gear but 6th gear was too fast. With the HST I can slow to go over heavy stuff and speed up over the lighter stuff, but the key is that I am constantly moving not stopping to change gears. I have found that with my HST that I haven't noticed a difference in power. It has had plenty of power for everything that I have wanted to do.
